For three months in a row, the Lodi Youth Commission has picked a Jim Elliot student to be the Lodi Teen of the Month! This is not surprising to those at JECHS who know the caliber of students we have attending here.
In November, Kristen Anema was highlighted (see that story here). In December Ryan Hayashino was chosen and then just this week another JECHS senior, Sabrina Medina was picked to be Teen of the Month. We are very proud of each of these students and not only their incredible accomplishments but also their strong faith and their witness for Jesus Christ.
Ryan Hayashino is a “one of a kind” guy who adds life, energy and enthusiasm to Jim Elliot and to all ho know him.
He is a great role model and mentor for underclassmen and is strong leader on campus. He has a 3.57 grade point average and is involved in track and field; the Interact Club; Robotics Club; Student Government where he is the rally coordinator; soccer, where he has been named defensive player of the year and all-league; Children’s Ministries-Youth Staff; youth group; and Storm Drain Detectives, where he serves as the president.
Ryan enjoys spending time with his friends, teaching himself and others how to unicycle, serving people and helping others, and working towards a ministry mindset. His family is Shelly and Corlos Villafana, Paul and Dena Hayshino and brother Kyle Villafana. He feels God has used each one of them as a different blessing and an inspiration to him.
Following graduation, he plans to attend a four-year private university in Southern California to pursue a degree in education or communications.
Senior, Sabrina Medina’ feature just this week in the Lodi News Sentinal as the January pick for Lodi Teen of the Month makes three consecutive months for JECHS! Sabrina is a shining star at Jim Elliot. She is known for her musical talent, her kindness and compassion, her strong leadership and vibrant faith.
Sabrina has a 3.9 grade point average and is involved in varsity volleyball, track and field and is the feature editor of the journalism staff. She serves as the student body vice president, on the church and school worship team, as a Lodi Memorial volunteer, a member of the Interact Club and as president of the California Scholarship Federation.

Medina enjoys playing the piano, singing, volunteering at the hospital, shopping, baking, jogging, going to the Cheesecake Factory and spending time with family and friends.
Her parents Cynthia and Mauricio are great supporters of JECHS and she has two sisteers, Nicole (JECHS Class of ‘06) and Audrianna. She feels her sisters are her best friends and her parents are always there to encourage her to do her best and to remind her to trust in the Lord and the plan he has for her life.
Following graduation, she plans to attend Azusa Pacific University to pursue a degree in nursing. She hopes to become a neonatal nurse to help sick infants who struggle to live.
Congratulations Ryan and Sabrina!
