Elliot Students Take a Stand for Life

JECHS is passionately pro life! Students are taught the Biblical world view which values all life from conception to the elderly as well as the disabled, destitute and orphaned. Our students are involved in volunteering for crisis pregnancy centers, children’s homes,  Special Olympics, rest homes and more. Many of our families and staff members have both fostered and adopted children in crisis situations.  This atmosphere of life is inspiring and motivating to everyone involved in the ministry at Jim Elliot.

Here are just a few ways over the past few months our students from have been actively involved in promoting the pro life message.

Red Envelope Day

March 31, 2009 was designated as Red Envelope Day across the nation. It was a simple concept: just buy a red envelope seal it up (yes, empty), address it to the president, and add this note on the back of the envelope: “This envelope represents one child who died in abortion. It is empty because that life was unable to offer anything to the world. Responsibility begins with conception.”

Mr Dan Lambdin’s Bible classes participated in this campaign mailing out well over 100 letters.

You may wonder, “What good will this do?” No one but God can answer that, but the campaign is similar to the “launcher” tactic used by William Wilberforce and others as they fought against slavery in the British Empire. It’s a simple, peaceful way of drawing attention to an evil that needs to be changed. President Obama, as Chuck Colson noted in this BreakPoint commentary, is confused on this issue: he rightly believes that God does not support taking innocent life, yet he is staunchly pro-abortion.

Walk for Life West Coast

On January 24, over 30,000 advocates for the unborn gathered in San Francisco to participate in a peaceful two and a half mile Walk for Life event that takes place throughout the nation on the heels of the anniversary of 1973’s Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision that made abortion legal under the premise of “right to privacy”.  Mr. Lambdin and his family, Miss Sallee, and four Jim Elliot students were among the pro-life walkers who endured the taunts of about 200 loud, angry protesters.

“The most inspiring thing was actually the opposition, because the vulgar and profane things the protesters were saying made me feel like they had no idea what they were talking about,” stated Mason Vickers, who attended with his dad and brother.

“It was really sad to see people against it, and the passion they had to be angry at us. But it also made you feel like you have more of a cause,” said Brittany Gross, who attended with Amy and Kristen Lambdin.
