Denim, Diamonds & Dreams – Volunteer Appreciation

We couldn’t pull off  our annual dinner auction without the help of a myriad of volunteers – parents, students, staff as well as friends of JECHS put in countless hours towards making Denim, Diamonds & Dreams the success it was. Because of their hard work & dedication we were able to raise over $35,000 for the school. Please join us in thanking -

Teri & Jerry Crutchfield -  Teri helped in numerous ways, recruiting & coordinating volunteers, collecting baskets each day from the school office, soliciting donations and volunteering the night of the event.  Her family donated the use of their home to store the hundreds of donated items and her and husband Jerry loaded and transported all the auction items to the Lexington Hotel.

Peggy Walters as always lent her wisdom, expertise and hard work to this event.  Besides her work in planning and organizing she also recruited and coordinated volunteers to help during the event and worked tirelessly throughout the evening from check in to silent auction to check out.

Monica Martinez  spent countless hours getting our auction items ready to sell – filling out bid sheets, creating certificates, doing basket presentation & set up, working silent auction tables, check out and was the last volunteer to leave the event after cleaning up. She also helped to solicit numerous donations, helped with marketing of the event and was our ambassador to the local private Christian feeder schools.

Sandy Musgrave used her bookkeeping and computer skills to track all 160+ of our auction items.  Since the majority of the donations came in the last 10 days she worked ’round the clock to get them all inputted so that bid sheets could be prepared.  Her work is not over as she is inputting our sales amounts for each item as well as preparing labels for thank you notes.

Michelle Sallee put her amazing artistic and graphic design talent  to work by designing all of our materials.  She created an attractive design for the theme Denim, Diamonds & Dreams and then created a banner, flyer’s, posters, tickets and our beautiful 20 page color program for the auction. All this was done free of charge and  ”after hours” as the JECHS computer, journalism & yearbook teacher.  She also put together our video highlight of JECHS shown at the auction.

Carrie Fox not only is a fabulous guidance counselor at Elliot but she is also a talented decorator and took the lead in creating our table decorations that included centerpieces, “dream” cards (compiled by Vasuhi Klinker) and napkin rings (created byMike Tackett’s ceramics class).  Her team of volunteers included Janyce Fletcher, Nina Ward, Kelly Hale,  Amber Schmidig, Tracy Rodriguez & Rachel Fichtner)

Jeanine Hicks, Sheri Scofield & Debbie Manley led the way in soliciting several donations for our silent auction.

Using their creative abilities to create attractive baskets (many came in already looking lovely – thank you to those who donated “ready to go” baskets) were – Tarianne Cotton, Becky Elliot, Teri Crutchfield, Jeanette Towne, Sandy Huber, Monica Martinez, Carrie Elliott and a couple of our grandmothers.

Helping out with phone calling was Carrie Elliott, Rachel Fichtner, Lori Cowden, Allysa Oliver & Monica Martinez

Jeanette Towne took care of all of our press releases to all local newspapers and magazines.

Jim Johnson who lent his photography talents to the event by coming and taking candid photos throughout the evening.

Carrie Elliott and Shelly Sherman were amazing as they solicited donations for auction items (over 40!), sold tickets (filled 3 tables) and asked for donations ($1500) during the final weeks leading up to the event.  There passion, enthusiasm and hard work was simply unbelievable (and they are not even JECHS parents….yet).

The night of the event we had many volunteers working hard in many areas to be sure everything got done – from set up, greeting, check in and security to silent auction hostesses, check out and clean up.  Besides most of those already listed we also were blessed to have:

  • Dianne Goans
  • Roberta Dodd
  • Sam Towne
  • Sal Martinez
  • Kathi Martens
  • Marlene & Jeff Weigum
  • Dan Lambdin
  • Steve Stow

We cannot thank enough our SPECTACULAR auctioneer – Jim Mulrooney - who did another fabulous job at bringing in over $22,000 in live auction donations.  He is always entertaining, upbeat, fun and outstanding at what he does.  Jim is a professional auctioneer but has volunteered his time and talent for the past 10 years of Jim Elliot auctions.  Thank you does not seem like enough.

The evening was topped off by several individuals who shared their heart, passion & enthusiasm for Jim Elliot.  Thank you for taking the time to prepare and for sharing so eloquently:

  • Student Body President – Travis Dodd
  • Current Parent – Jeannette Gross
  • Alumni – Jeremy Duncan & Mark Thomas
  • Grandparent – Becky Octave

Thank you to our drama students under the direction of Sherrolyn Elmore, who came and performed a scene from Beauty & the Beast

  • Justine Chacon
  • Cameron Elmore
  • Elizabeth Theisen
  • Charity King
  • Rachel Grenz

We hope that we included everyone who volunteered their time to help with the annual dinner auction. As you can see it takes dozens of volunteers to pull off an event of this magnitude.  Our hope an prayer is that in upcoming years we will have even more parents, students, grandparents, alumni and future parents lend a helping hand and lighten the load.  If you are interested in volunteering with fundraising events, please contact Director of Development, Beth Lambdin at 209-518-4016.

PS – If we left anyone off our list that should be recognized, please let us know.
